The new Tacoma receives updated powertrains, more modern features, and a wider selection of trim levels, which includes the newly introduced Trailhunter. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder that powers every Tacoma. The engine comes in two forms and pairs with either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual. Rear- and four-wheel drive are both available. The base 228-hp turbo four is only found in the entry-level SR, and the rest of the lineup gets mightier iForce variations with up to 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.

The turbocharged four-cylinder engine puts to rest any concern that the loss of Tacoma’s old V6 engine would be a detriment to the truck’s driving experience and capability.

It has easy-to-use menus and a sharp resolution that makes the optional surround-view camera system look great. While many new vehicles are moving toward virtual buttons, it’s refreshing to find so many real buttons and switches in Tacoma.

While most Toyota Tacoma trucks have a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, the TRD Off-Road models and upwards feature a larger 12.3-inch all-digital unit. A head-up display comes standard on the Limited and above, with those models also packing heated and cooled front seats.

Getting into the Tacoma isn’t difficult, but the rear seats are a bit harder to access due to the limited amount of legroom. Once behind the wheel, the driver enjoys a good deal of adjustability, especially from the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and there’s plenty of headroom for tall drivers.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen is the standard infotainment system on most Tacomas, but a larger 14.0-inch display is optional. The Limited model comes standard with a bigger screen. Every model includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Tacoma’s wide and somehow flat front seats offer comfort for people of varying sizes. The cloth seats in our test truck felt a little coarse, especially compared with the optional synthetic leather upholstery, but should prove plenty durable in the long run. The rear seats aren’t especially roomy, which is typical of the midsize truck segment, and taller passengers felt the seat cushions were too low and short for longer drives.

There are two cargo bed sizes and an available 400-watt household-style power outlet. Tacomas equipped with the hybrid powertrain get a boost to 2,400 watts. Inside, the Tacoma offers quite a few storage options.
